Default Question on luger mag marking

I bought a 1938 mauser rig a long time ago. I noted that the code
marks are different on each mag. I was advised on one occasion
that the spare marked mag might have been a German field
replacement during the war. German field armorers would not have had code marking dies in the field, so I was told.
If there is a problem with the spare mag would that affect my rig
sale value ? Thanks john414r@hotmail.com

P.S. pic of both mags attached

Imho, the mag on the left has been ground & restamped.
And not by a German Field Armorer.

Dana, to my tired old eyes it looks like the mag on the right was ground down (or filed) unevenly and stamped haphazardly...With a decidedly different font...

Your two mags have two different letter suffixes. So they are from two diffent P08's. The numbers being the same lend credence to rolandtg's observation that one mag might have been ground and renumbered and they just did not change the letter suffix. Does your P08 have either the i or w suffix? So yes this would affect the value negatively, going from two matching mags down to one or no matching mag. Post some side profile pic close ups might help. I had an S/42 mag that was ground and renumbered to match the serial. It was obvious when looking at the side profile on that one when compared to an untouched original mag. Hope that helps. Mark

No doubt the right mag has been ground and re-numbered; likely to boost the value of the rig.
Not a good job either grinding or stamping, and the E/63 are not of the same vintage either.

Sorry, but I believe you were "taken" when you bought the rig as having 2 matching mags, they are not.

Yes, you are correct, I meant right.

Here's an example of the matching mags from my '38 S/42.
