Grip question

Couple questions, Were there different types or coarseness of checkering on wooden grips (lines per inch) and what would be the best book for a beginings collector to identify correct parts (matching gun) Thank you for any help.

Brad, The DWM grips made before 1914 do have finer checkering than those made later and these later ones also have a bit more width a the bottom of each side to line up with the stock attachment area. The angle of the checkering and thickness of the grips with vary between manufacturer (see Gibson's "Krieghoff Parabellum" book for the only published comparison of grips and many other PO8 parts. For those of us who do not collect Krieghoffs and do not own the book, would it be possible to publish this part (Gibson's "Krieghoff Parabellum" book for the only published comparison of grips and many other PO8 parts.) of the book as a section in the Technical Information area of the Luger Forum?

Luke,

Gibson's comparisons run to 21 pages of rather fine print and dozens of detailed photograpic comparisons, in a book the size of Stills'.

I don't collect Krieghoffs, and didn't think that it would be applicable to my interests, until I bought it one day on impulse. It proves to be vastly interesting, I'm constantly discovering new things in it, and haven't regretted its purchase for a moment. It is more densely packed with information than any other Luger book.

In case you haven't figured it out, I'm recommending it highly.

I would love to put Gibson's grip comparisons up as web pages here on the Lugerforum but I think 21 pages of material might be too much to ask Mr. Gibson for permission under his copyright... I guess I better put a copy of his book on my wish list.

I wish that some of these older books would be considered by their authors for "reprinting" in electronic form such as the e-books by Gerard Henrotin... I would love to be able to carry my Luger references within my laptop.

The other great thing about Gibson's book is that it covers in text & photos the typical characterists of some of the other luger manufacturers' pistols and machining characteristics of those pistols...

Hi Luke,

You can't go wrong with this book. You know I'm a Mauser Military, but the Gibson Book is filled with data on all Lugers, as well as the Kreighoff's. Besides no one in their right mind would collect only HK's

I thought I had found a used copy (new condition?) for $40.00, but it had already been sold.

Simpson has them listed for $60.00, but I am hoping to find a used copy.

there was one on ebay yesterday Luke... The bidding was at $75... I would definitely try Simsons... their price is not out of line.
