Got One
Hey guys I took the advice many of you offered and bought a shooter grade Luger as my first gun. The Luger is a mismatched pistol with the upper matching. The frame, side plate, and grips match the frame number. The internal parts match the upper. The frame is stamped on the left side with 7 4 W and the right with a B. The grips have to be removed to see this. Can any tell me who made the frame and who made the upper? The acceptance stamps on the right side are marked 655. The magazine is marked 122 37 on the side. I think the holster is made for a HI Power because of the markings WaA101 nka43.
I paid $750 for the gun and holster. How did I do? Any information you can give me on this pistol would be appreciated. |

More pictures
Here are a few more pictures. One more question. The barrel is marked 41 and the toggle is marked 42. What do the numbers mean? Is it just mismatched? Thanks in advance

Congrats on your first Luger. I am sure you will have fun with it at the range. Keep us posted as to your range experience. Hey, how about some photos of the holster.

Holster
Here are a few pictures of the holster. It is in poor to fair condition. I may post it for sale.

WaA101 - Waffenamt Inspectors Number (Auwaerter & Bubeck) and three others, but none of them were "nka"
nka is associated with J.j. Schlayer AG, Lederfabrik. Reutlingen (Wurttenberg). (German Ordinance codes: p. 211 Luger Holsters & Accessories of the 20th Century) The style, however, is certainly not for a Luger. Hi-Power is as good a guess as I can come up with. |

Congrats on your "first" Luger.....there may well be more!!! If this Luger functions well for you at the range, then I think that you did fine price wise. It should never be worth less then that amount going forward.
Break it down for a through cleaning, inspection and lube. A new Mec-Gar mag is also something that I would consider for this shooter. They are the best aftermarket mags available for a P08. Stick with std. velocity FMJ RN ammo and you should be fine. There are many brands available, so hopefully you will find what you new Luger likes best....Enjoy!! |

Good job, both in the pistol and price for what should be a great shooter.
I'd keep the holster, it ain't worth much!

If it shoots and cycles properly, you did just fine.
The "41" is the year the upper was made. The "42" is a concealment code for Mauser. It's a Mauser made upper from early in the year before the concealment code changed to "byf". The frame looks DWM or early Mauser (1935-1937) to me. Is the side plate marked "92" inside toward the bottom, or does it have a number like "93" in the flat area? Of course, "49" on the outside flat area. The serial on the front of the frame is out of focus, but looks like it may have been ground and renumbered. The side plate could confirm the original number, and manufacturer if it's matched to the frame. You'll learn a lot by reading our FAQ document. BTW, you have the best shooting magazine already. The milled Haenel Schmeisser magazines are very high quality. Marc
