Annodizing CAN be done at home, but it is not recommended unless you are very handy...
Visit AR15.com and search for posts on annodizing... you will find much information there... It is the best site on the web for the AR15 rifle... and has many posts, articles and internet links for the do-it-yourself folks.

John is right, it is also a very expensive operation too set up for one's own guns. It would need be set up for a commercial endeavor. And I do not believe you want too go through all the trouble of importing and exporting a gun to the US just too have some work done. I will email you straw info. thanks

There is a process called 'black chrome" that is sometimes used as a finish on stainless. My impression is that it is a form of plating in which the plating is black in color.
What's used on the AIMCO stainless pieces with a black finish? |

There are also bake on paints, not something I hold much stock in, but cheaper then starting a plating business....he needs too look around his part of the world and see what is available.

Winchester used a process, where they literally plated iron onto the stainless steel so it could be blued. They thought that people wouldn't like the looks of a bright shiney metal barrel being exposed.

I may have a solution to your problem. There is a company called Caswell Plating that manufactures a product called "Stainless Steel Blackener". This product works wonders on stainless steel gas cylinders for the M1 Garand and the M1A, and gives a perfect black finish. The wesite address is the "www", "dot", "caswellplating", "dot", "com". I have never had success in posting web address, so the this should get you to their site. Their telephone number is 315-331-5141 and I would suggest that you call them to discuss what you plan to blue.
I hope this helps a little, and keep us posted if you contact the folks at Caswell, as I found they are very nice people to deal with. Marvin |
