Search Avoidance
Gentlemen,
Whenever I search Ebay, my searchword is 'Luger'. To avoid the return of any Lex Luger or toy gun listings, my search entry looks like this: luger -(lex) -(toy) -(wcw) -(wwf) -(miniature) -(boat) -(airsoft) -(toys) I also want to do this with Auction Arms and GunBroker but do not know the code that will work. If one of our number will admit to being a computer nerd (read, geek) and supply the info, I will not tell a soul, maybe.

Hi Wes,
On Gunbroker, click on "Search tips" for the codes and features. It does include a minus sign to avoid matching specific words. On Auction Arms and GunsAmerica, I could not find out how to avoid certain terms. |

My question for you is, do you find many Luger items outside of the "Militaria" section? |

Doubs,
Many, and I do find items listed by little old ladies and urbanites that do not know that the militaria section is where it belongs. To them an antique or relic is just that. Literature (instruction booklets) sometimes does not make it to the militaria section.

Wes, thanks. Looks like I need to expand my search into other areas beyond "Militaria".

Wes,
My list of "minus" words got so long on ebay that it wouldn't accept any more!

Guys,
Here is the minus list that I use on eBay and it works pretty well... I don't think I have missed much in the couple three years I have been using it... luger -(lex, gay, prop, movieprop, cap, toy, wcw, wwf, marble, watch, peter, joe, boat, wrestling, airsoft, dvd, marx)

Okay, I hate to do this John... You guys will suck up my good items.
For those idiots, uh, I mean uninformed people that spell Georg's name Lugar, do this. (luger, lugar) -(wwf, wrestling, lex, birth, rcbs, mold, prop, brass) is what I do. A few items ALWAYS pop up that don't get looked at as much. I mean DID get looked at as much. great, just great
