Re: what about a sabot, .30 / .22 in a .30 Luger c
There have been at least three wildcats based on necking the 30 Luger case down to 22. I'm still wishing for more info on them myself. If the cartridge will not deliver enough impulse to cycle properly it is possible to use a recoil spring with one or two turns cut off. I've heard claims of velocities as high as 2000 fps which would deliver enough impulse, but it sounds a trifle optimistic. The Luger action is good to a working pressure of 40,000 CUP (This was the working pressure in the old model carbine) and the current factory loads in 30 Luger run less than 28,000 by way of comparison. The current factory loads don't really deliver enough impulse for reliable cycling with a stock recoil spring.

With a sabot.........
you could use any available .22 bullet, as long as you could seat the combination to an overall satisfactory length..... I don't know if you would have to modify the gun (.30 Luger) at all? Perhaps a weaker mainspring? My biggest concern is whether or not the 4' barrel, and twist, and velocity would be sufficient to make the sabot perform as it should? I would think some of our reloaders could find out pretty quickly if it even works at all! If it did, it would be neat....till....later....G.T.
