new to forum, looking for value
What a piece of machinery
I found a 1918 (double-dated) military DWM about sixty percent...Would anyone (Please) be interested in giving me their opinion of the value of this pistol? I have some ideas, but I also know what I can get this one for...I'm just trying to strike a bargain with myself. Thanks, Tryceman |

Welcome to the forum. Value depends on a lot of variables, but you've come to the right place to get honest advice.
When you say double dated do you mean it has the 1920 property mark and does it have a police sear safety ? Do the numbers all match ? Is the mag correct for the period ? When you say 60% is that just the finish, what kind of condition is the metal in, any unit markings ? Sorry for all the questions but depending on a number of factors people might estimate from $500 to quite a bit more depending on the details, (a rare unit mark may add considerably to the value for example, severe pitting exactly the opposite !). Many would say that any reasonable shootable Luger is now worth at least $500, (you can certainly find someone to pay that, anyway). A few pictures will bring the estimates flooding in Stu |

Thanks, Stu, Ed...
Yes, the pistol is a 1918 with the 1920 "double-date" on it. The markings are the standard, and I quote my best info to date " german military receiver proof. Found on DWM lugers 1914-1918" No add markings were noticed upon initial inspection. All parts appear to be matching, less the lever on the right side, below the barrel. it is one number off. The bluing is off a bit, but the metal looks to be very nice. The wooden grips are worn on the bottom, in the front pretty good on the "inside" grip, anyway. Most of the wear seems to be holster-derived. This is a full rig, by the way, the holster says "1918 Berkhard" on it. It's rough, but complete, and flexible still. Thanks, Keith |
