Default latest yard sale find.

yard sale find last Sunday ( guy works flipping foreclosed homes) so he comes up with all sorts of cool stuff
Anyway we were talking about the guns I picked up in the last month at the swap meet, winchester 94, remington 510p, a ruger gp100. He goes hold on, check this out. He brings out s old bolt action rifle, obviously military surplus, I see the word torino stamped on it. has what looks like a carcano magazine and the date 1881. i figured any complete mil surplus guns worth 100 dollars I bought it.
turns out it's a vetterli M1870/87/15 Italian rifle chambered in 6.5 carcano. not worth very much but a cool peice of history. jim

If you’d like more info on it, here is the C&Rsenal episode as they talk about those Vetterli’s for 45 minutes. https://youtu.be/-qOEh_DwJR0

Back in 1950s and early 60s all the gun mags and outdoor mags carried ads from the big mail order gun houses. Shooting Times January 1964 issue carried an ad for Western Military Arms of Sacramento Ca. Western was offering Russian 91/30 rifles in NRA good condition for $9.95. WWII M98 Mausers in NRA good condition for $29.95. Other magazines from that time period had Vetterli and various Rolling Blocks for $9.95. They were so cheap people made lamps out of them. You scored a nice one with lots of history as they served in WWI.

Thanks! And to add to my yard sale scores. Last saturday I found a guy dumping all of his reloading equipment. Lee progressive and rcbs rock chucker press, scales, case trimmer, shell vibrator cleaner, 5 manuals, powder measures, trays etc basically the hole shebang ($100) So i could pick up a set of carcano dies and make some light loads or black powder loads to safely shoot this. Jim

And another not as good but decent. Colt new army-navy .38 DA $150 needs a hand spring and a bolt spring (ordered last night) Hopkins and allenb#6 in 38sw for $50 and a pair of east German back lite ak75 mags for $25.
Going to take stock of my hoard and have a sale soon. Jim
