Swiss 06/24 bern
Were the SWISS 06/24 BERN sideplate marked with the last two serial numbers only on the bottom of the plate. Would an unmarked reinforced side plate be acceptable?

What do you mean by unmarked reinforced sideplate? As far as I know some Model W+F 06 magazine wooden bottoms bear the last two digits of the serial number, but normally I don't think that sideplates shoud bear any number. Basically we can fid 3 types of the Mod 06 W+F 1st ) is very similar to te older SWM 1900/06 apart the shape of the grips. 2nd) was blued by immersion so all the internal parts are blued, and on some of them we can find a simplified breechblock without the small step on the upper side. 3rd) the latter variation, with blued internal part and simplified trigger plate But apparently it's quite possible to find the 2nd and 3rd variations mixed up. Hope to have been clear. Sergio

My gun was made (according to the S/N) at the end of the 24 model run. At about the time the trigger plate was strengthen by enlarging the ridge all the way from bottom to top of the plate instead of just !/2 the way up the plate. The gun came with the old un-strengthen trigger plate but with the #22 on the bottom edge instead of the #79 (last two numbers of the S/N)

A picture would surely help, anyway as I said especially towards the production end many pistols were a jigsaw of parts of varying origin, and many of them had a new trigger plate similar to the one of the Mod 29 W+F.

Hugh,
The work that W&F did on their last Luger design was focused on cost reduction and eliminating manufacturing steps. That is the likely explanation for the change in the profile of the trigger plate. Since your Luger was made at the time of transition to the later design, it's possible that parts were mixed but I think it's less likely, especially since you found yours with a mismatch. My side plate does contain the last two digits of the serial number. Swiss Lugers were regularly maintained and repaired by the Swiss. I don't know if they would mix parts from the different designs in the repair process, or would only replace a trigger plate from new old stock. Marc

Are the last two digits of the serial number on your gun on the bottom edge of the side plate or elsewhere? Thank you, Hugh

Now I've understood sorry, yes mine (s/n 32420) has got the last three digits only on the edge like the one of the picture.

The last two digits are on the bottom edge of the side plate. Also on the receiver's locking lug, and the rear toggle.

Well Gentleman, now that we are all on the same page, I am in need of a side plate/trigger plate, with numbers 279 or 79 on the bottom edge of the plate. Thank you, Hugh

Hugh,
I'm glad you got it sorted out. Now to address one of my pet peeves. There is no such thing as a "06/24 Bern"...the Swiss started producing these in 1918, not 1924, so the "24" should be dropped and the model could be "1900/06 Waffenfabrik Bern" or just "1906 (or 06) Bern"...anything that indicates it was manufactured by Waffenfabrik Bern, not DWM, and is of the Model 1906 configuration.
