1916 DWM with odd unit marks
Hi,
I am located in New Zealand and the following may have been either an Australian or New Zealand Trophy. Not sure how to post an image now that photobucket is gone.---- any suggestions? ------------- This particular Luger is a 1916 manufacture pistol with serial number in the 8000's, probably from either the Somme or near Paschendale. This is where the New Zealand troops were in late 1916 and early 1917. On the face directly above the lanyard loop (just under the slide), and in big letters, is stamped: 1. M. 66. Nothing else, outside normal markings, anywhere else and this is not the normal place to stamp it Can anyone translate these stamps? there is a 66th (3rd Magdeburg) Infantry listed on wikipedia Note - my other 1916 has no unit markings and my 1913 model has no unit markings either. Both odd unit marks and odd location or them to be stamped
Just to clarify
The location of the unit stamps is unusual and the stamps them selves are rather short for complete information. |

Most likely Weimar era markings.
