These pistols were imported into the US by Interarms at a time when the cold war was in full swing. Interarms masqueraded the fact that they came from an Eastern-Block 'enemy' by stating that they were DWM lugers made in Germany.
When word got out that these were of Bulgarian origin, Interarms decided to mill away the Bulgarian crest, just to avoid further unwanted attention by government agencies. Even with the Bulgarian markings obliterated, they still made a nice profit on the pistols. |
