Hi all,
What do you think of this Luger P08 Holster ? I don't know the age, if this a rare one or not etc etc. I would be really glad to receive any info about. Thank you so much. Here are some pictures :

Hi Fabrizio, Welcome to the forum. Your holster look to be a high quality, early (pre 1908), and rare commercial Luger holster. There is a very similar one, by Albrecht Kind, illustrated in "Pistole Parabellum". Regards, Norm

Not so fast ..I smell a rat. This type of Police configuration was not made untill around 1926 and later. I cannot ever remember seeing a Police holster like this made with the old WW1 holster style..No reinforcing rib on the back of the magazine pouch, a seperate hinge. This also seems to have a abnormaly fat magazine pouch. I don't like the fuzzy edge around the top. There are some things I like about it but some that are implausible.

Maybe it was Galland's holster...

There is something printed below the metal stud base on the inside flap of the holster. A photo of this might add further clues as to origin. I also agree that this is a 20s-30s vintage commercial? holster.

Norm..Sturgess is perhaps the only Luger books I don't yet have..When you say just like Fabrizio's..do you mean front and back? Is there a photo of the back in Sturgess?
I can imagine very early Police configurations being made in the WW1 style but I can't say as I have ever seen one. This New Police style is HIGHLY unlikely to have been made that way..It was a new design and incorporated several important improvements besides the front Police upward strap and stud closure. Let me know about that Sturgess reference if you get time..Thanks

Hi Jerry, This is the best I can do with my scanner, it's a very thick book and hard to get it to lie flat. The first scan is the Commercial (no view of the back), the second is a very similar Police marked holster. Best regards, Norm

Hi all,
thank you all for your answers. The holster isn't mine, it is of a friend of mine who's a collector of militaria but he isn't friendly user of computers. If you wish to look at more detailed pictures I will ask him to bring again his holster here and I will take them. Thank you again.

Norm, Many thanks! These holsters are certainly not the normal Police type... but you are right..they certainly seem to have been made in the WW1 type back configuration according to Sturgess. I guess you can learn an old dog new tricks!
When the new Sturgess volumes come out I will have to spring for a set. Thanks for setting me straight! I appreciate your efforts. I have to say that's an odd D ring pull up strap but it looks original to the holster?
