Post S/42(1938) markings on mag and backstrap

My S/42(1938) has the letter N over 3140 on the middle of the backstrap and N3140 on the bottom of the magazine over the matching serial number.

Any idea of the meaning of these letters/numbers?

thanks

Hi Don! Your Luger was built for the Kriegsmarine Nordsee Flotte (North Sea Floatilla) and was assigned 3140 which probably stands for that number of the pistol received by the floatilla. The pistol is fairly rare, in that only about 2400 were produced for the Navy in 1938, according to Still (Third Reich Lugers). Also, it is even more rare to find one with a matching magazine. You lucky dog!! Good Hunting!
