Default FM M95 Detective Hi Power

Does anybody have any hands on experience with these Argentine made Hi Powers? I am curious as to the quality and how well they function. I've even read that FM used to sell just the shorter 'detective' slides to convert Hi Powers.

I have owned my Mod. 90 FM Detective HP for a number of years now, There are basically two(2) Detective models that I am aware of....the early Mod. 90, and the Later Mod. 95. The later model had a few upgrades (dovetail sights, and a couple of other things) over the early models. The Mod. 95 had a real "billboard" of imprinting on the slide.

FM did indeed sell a Detective "kit" that one could change a std. upper(barrel and slide, recoil spring and guide) out to the shorter variety. One does still see them for sale, but not often, and they have become quite pricey....as is the complete Detective model.

My Detective model runs like a "Singer Sewing Machine" with factory and handload ammo. I would not hesitate to purchase another if one was found at a reasonable price.

The full size FM HPs have a very good reputation for fit/finish and reliability.

I guess I'll have to be on the lookout for an M95 Detective to add to my gunsafe. What type of finish do they come in? It does not appear to be a salt or rust blue.

The finish is some sort of spray on method as far as I know, not a bluing finish. You will find everything from quite nice and acceptable, to "that must be a Monday morning finish"!!! I have seen both. I was lucky, and my Mod. 90 finish a quite nice. I have never seen any with a different type of finish, so if different, perhaps it is non-original. I know a few folks that have had their Detectives refinished due to bad original finishes....or wear.
