Jan Still's board

I am or was a long-standing member of the Luger forum belonging to Jan Still, and have made numerous posts there.

Yesterday I made a visit and posted there, and made a shortcut to the thread. Today, upon using the shortcut, a message comes up instead saying that the server of that site has blocked my IP address in its firewall, ... in other words, I have been locked out. Anyone know what is going on with that ?

It appears the block was intentionally applied, ... perhaps to pare down the membership rolls and tighten up the qualifications required for status as a participating member ?

I thought I was considered "in" but evidently not.

Well, as you were answering my previous post, I was busily amending it, but your quote caught the previous version.

The error notice, if it is anything to believe, says "this" server meaning the board's server, and then in the same line, says blocked by "this" server's firewall, which I would grammatically regard as referring again to the board's server's firewall. Maybe I am being too literal in my assumption of proper grammar usage by the server's programmers.

Maybe Ed could help ... 'not sure how to contact him ....

I really don't think I've offended anyone, 'don't remember any controversial statements, nor personal remarks, nor arguments .... I'm not generally a confrontational person, and not overly frequent to post.

You probably just have the bad luck to be on a server or ip-range that has been abused for spamming or hacking attempts. It happens, software usually automatically blocks ip-ranges after it considers something an 'attack'.

Just contact gunboards and ask them to release your IP.

Whatever it was that happened, it happened the within 24 hours of my visiting the board there, where I made one short post, to the effect that I had two of the rare type of commercial holsters being described in the thread. ( The type of early holster that has a long thin pocket adjacent to the mag pocket, for a cleaning rod, and a narrow pocket inside the lid next to the tool pocket, for a pin punch.)

That is a spoon inserted into the mag pocket to keep the tool pocket lid open for the photo to show the pin-punch pocket next to the tool pocket.

I was unable to post a photo link at that time, and the next day unable to enter the site at all.

I don't see why that post would be objectionable.

Alx, again: It has nothing to do with your posts on the forum.

The server on which the forum is running just blocked the IP-range of your provider's host, probably due to someone spamming from the same IP-range.

you can notify your own ISP about this as well. They will have to look into it.

No it was not an offer to sell, but it is possible that someone, a moderator, took it that way. I had not thought of that, but now you mention the possibility, maybe that is what happened. I was actually on there looking for and at threads about the Lahti, 'just recently bought an M-40. I also noticed the thread on holsters while looking around at stuff, and the mention of a Luger holster that fit that description.

I like them, 'have cleaning rods and pin-punches for each, and I consider one as matched to a specific DWM 1915 which I have shown on the board years ago, and the other is for my DWM 1910.

I've sent a PM to Ed ....

The server screen shot that you posted shows CSF (Configserver Firewall). That runs autonomously and blocks IP-addresses and ranges automatically depending on a fixed set of rules that it uses.

The owner of the server (not the same as the forum) can fix it by releasing your IP.

Would it not be proper procedure for Ed, or the site operator, to request his site's server to release my IP , if anyone is to do that. ?

Seems to me the server would not be willing to unblock someone just because they asked, if the blocking was done according to the set parameters.

Alx, it is actually a simple operation to add your IP to an 'ignore list'. But it is something the server admin must do, it is not something the moderators can do.

I am in confusion as to what that implies; is the ignore list causing the target server to ignore my server's request for access to the Luger board, or to ignore the parameters it was using to block my access ? Either way, I guess it's a moot point, since I can do nothing directly myself.

Not really:

CSF works with a number of lists:
A deny list: if your ip is in that list, you will not get access.
An allow list: if your ip is in that list, it will never be denied and always be allowed.
An ignore list: ip's that are not in the allow list, but because they are in the ignore list, they will never end up in the deny list. This is mainly used for ip's that end up in the deny list by mistake.

I mainly wanted to check out the Lahti-specific discussions and knowledge base, as there was some interesting info there.
