SE NAPCA Event Report...
Just returned from the SE NAPCA (National Automatic Pistol Collector's Association) yearly gun convention in Chattanooga, TN.
Thought folks might like to see some photos of great gun collectors and their collections. The highlights of the trip for me were : 1. Seeing old Luger Forum friends such as Derek Seltzer, Leo Lavelle, Tom Armstrong, Tom Beasley, and George Anderson. 2. Meeting Luger Forum members such as Bob Benson, Joop Van De Kant (who traveled in all the way from Belgium), and "BogeyB" in person. 3. Getting together with lots of NAPCA members who are the real experts such as Jim Cate, Freddy Greer, Jim Kemp, Joe Schroeder, Bob Beers, Dave Shallenberg, etc. 4. Getting to see Bob Beer's Erfurt luger collection which included the 1910-dated P-08 pistol and a 1914 LP-08. 5. Getting to see an Erfurt double date - 1912/1930...that is right...it has a "1930" not a "1920" property stamping above the original "1912" chamber date. 6. Getting to see an Erfurt factory cut-away pistol...serial numbered as "51". 7. Listening to a wonderful dinner-time presentation by Jim Cate regarding the 2nd. 1910-Erfurt P-08 pistol...serial # 28. Jim did the presentation for the gun's owner who could not make the show...thus the pistol was not present at the show...but Jim did pass around nice detailed, close-up photos of # 28 for all to admire during the presentation. The owner has spent nearly 10 years tracing and documenting the history of this pistol...through 2 previous owners and the German officer who lost the pistol during WWI. Here are the convention photos : |

Bogey,
Thanks for not displaying George's face; his status requires discretion. Tom A. |

Pete, Thanks for the great pictures! This show looks MUCH better than the best of the Reno shows! A must visit in the future. Erfurt #28 1910, I believe is the property of William Hughey, of the Seattle area. He has told me of the interesting story of how he acquired this piece and the subsequent search (successful I might add) for the original owner....just simply fascinating! This show should have been taped for DVD so we all could share it.

Pete, great photos, looks like a good show to go to. Is this a 'show and tell' kind of show or are these items for sale?

Hi Herb,
I certainly bought a lot, but based on my inability to sell a $5 dollar bill for a dolla nintey eight, I think most folks were of the opinion that it was a show and tell. Tom A |

Mike,
It was great to meet you in person...sorry we lost track of each other as the day on Saturday progressed...there were just so many good lugers to look over. Try as I did...there were 3 nice Swiss lugers offered to me...but I must have become a bit particular this past year and am looking for just the right ones with the right markings I am chasing down... My wife could not believe I came home with more money then I left home with.. |
