help for my P08
Hello girls and boys.
firstly, I use google translator. Once the matter, I have a P08 from 1910. with NO. 1229th besides that, there's no other stamps on it. nothing in there, stamp 8.82 below the pipe, but assume that it is cal / measuring the pipe? What can you say about this P08? are there any lists that I can type no in and see more about it? Who used it? Best regards from Denmark. leopard2a5. |

Hello Martin, and welcome to the forum.
It would be useful to see the right side of the receiver near the chamber (front) to see the proof and acceptance marks if they are present there. The "8.82" is the measurement inside the barrel from land to land, and this is the caliber of your Luger (9mm Luger). There should be a letter under the serial number 1229 in front of the frame above the trigger guard. This is a suffix letter and it is part of the Luger's serial number. I can't quite see it in your fourth picture because the flash has washed it white in the picture. When you take more photographs of the Luger, go outdoors, photograph them without the flash/blitz and in shaded indirect light. Use the closeup setting (often a flower graphic) on your camera. Try and get sharp focus by using a tripod to hold the camera steady. Put the Luger on the table so it doesn't move. Check this site for other references to the serial number, and for lists that keep information on known Lugers. Marc

Martin,
Welcome to the Forum! The 1910 luger was the first to have a factory applied date. Estimated 17,000 made. ser.no 5095b to 5358d. Your's might be a 'd' block. (?) Blocks were 10,000 each. It looks to be refinished. FN Last edited by FNorm; 10-06-2011 at 09:11 PM. Reason: ed |

Norm,
The serial numbering shouldn't restart at 01 every year? Or this was a practice that started only on a later date? Sorry for the dumb question, but sometimes some basic info escapes me... Besides that, I also think that this gun was refinished at some point. Douglas |

Hi Douglas, If I may, I'll respond for my friend Fred (FNorm). DWM Lugers were numbered in one continuous sequence from 1st Issue through 1911. From 1912 on, they started from 1 each year. Best regards, Norm

This gun is not refinished. Not in the least. It just has had a a cold blue dip, the trigger and magazine catch and safety aren't strawed so.....
