9mm/7.65 parts
Are all the parts in a 9mm and a 7.65 interchangeable except the barrel? Will a barrel/receiver (with all parts) 9mm interchange fit and fire on a 7.65 bottom?

...and usually the main spring. All other parts identical, though there's an outside chance in this case that the side plate might need adjustment.

Forgot to ask about moving the toggle assembly from one receiver to the other - any problems with ejection or loading, does bolt fit both 9mm and 7.65?

An answer to your question is yes you can. You have to remember that these handguns were all hand fitted as there were no CNC machines back then. That is why so many parts are numbered to the handgun. I own a DWM 1921 Alphabet Luger in 30 Luger caliber. I have fitted a 1939 rebarreled receiver to my frame, and have a complete Erfurt toggle train in it. This is in 9mm.
I am a handloader so I can tailor my ammo so that one mainspring can be used(9mm in my case) to fire both 30 luger and 9mm. The magazines are the same for both calibers. One might get lucky and have a different complete 9mm upper fit on your 30 Luger lower/frame and function correctly, but don't bet a lot of money on it. Just know that it can and is being done. |

Which main spring would it be possible to use with both 9mm and 7.65 and which main spring would not be advised to use with both. I have both 9mm barrel receiver and 7.65 barrel receiver but only the 7.65 bolt assembly/lower. All parts seem to work together but I have not done any shooting just working slide and dry firing. Everything seem to work smoothly...Am thinking of obtaining another bolt/toggle assembly?..........

seems like you could test the barrel/receiver to toggle asy with go/no-go gauges
but beware that the excess looseness / wear in some toggles asy / connecting pins may create some misleading variation in the correct headspace measurement like : http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-to...prod25181.aspx note the breechblock damage on sample at the top view picture - a 30 cal example! The breechblocks(bolt) are the same for both calibers since the cartridge casehead is identical(size-wise) on both rounds. If you are planning on using only factory ammo, I would suggest that you try using the 9mm mainspring, as the 9mm cartridge is much more powerful than the 7.65Para round, and the lighter spring(7.65P) might allow battering of your toggle train when firing 9mm ammo. You will just have to experiment with it, as no two Lugers are the same. As to 9mm ammo, stay away from NATO, +P, and +P+.....way too hot for the Luger.

I have found that some 'cannon' assemblies are a really tight fit on a mismatched frame. I tried to fit a friend's .22 'cannon' assembly on a frame that it was not matched for...It bound... I had a donor frame come in last week, a ~1937 Mauser frame, that I was putting a 1917 receiver/barrel extension & toggle train on; it had too tight a fit in the frame ear area (possibly bent or dropped). Only ~.010" but it was still a bear to rack. I lapped the receiver/barrel extension in with valve grinding compound, rubbing compound, and finally polishing compound to get it to slide smooth and easy. Took a lot of time. Had to do the same thing today with an artillery stock attaching iron. So the parts are the same, and they will interchange...
