preferred video format
I returned from vacation today and re-taped the mainspring compression video that John Sabato requested for the video section. In addition I made a video that shows how to field strip and re-assemble a Luger. I used a camcorder instead of my cell phone this time but the new video has to be converted to a format that can be shown on a computer. What are the video format preferences and video file size limitations for this site? The Mainspring compression video is just under two minutes long, and the field strip and reassembly video is about three and a half minutes long.
Thanks, Chris

Depends ...
Oh oh, this is almost one of those VHS vs Betamax things.
It depends a lot on what people are using out there to use the forum. Maybe John S or John D have a preference. I know we have some windows, MAC and webTV users. I think a .MPG format will play in windows media player, Quicktime, and Real Player, and MAC's. That might be better than the proprietary formats for any of them. Fritz. |

Since windows media player is the highest distribution player (windows based)... any format that is WMP compatible should be acceptable... if it happens to match compatibility for one of the low density operating systems like the MAC, all the better... I think our only webtv user is Tom Heller... and according some of his latest posts... he is FINALLY upgrading to a REAL PC... way to go Tom.
Chris... check your PM's for the email address to use to send me the video files for posting.

Well I can tell you that all the MPG videos that are currently in the Luger Videos section, play just fine on my Mac.

John,
I don't actually see any links pointing to videos in this thread, but if you point me in the direction of one, I'll be happy to check it out and report back. Dok

Hi John,
I can confirm that those MWV links work just fine. They open in a separate window. You have to wait until they are fully buffered before they will play, but once that's complete they play fine. For what it's worth, I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.7, but it would be my guess that any OS X 10.3 or higher would work fine. Dok
