Default ...They got me !

Yep, the scammers/spammers got me! My own fault, I wasn't paranoid enough...

It was on another forum with a Wanted To Sell/Wanted To Buy sub-forum. There, a WTB post is deleted after two weeks. Back in June and July, and again this month (October), I posted a WTB for items I needed (before going to eBay). Keep the money in-house.

Each time, I got a reply from a different member telling me to email xxxxxxx@gmail.com (different address each time) - "He has what you want". I finally tumbled to it when I noticed each response had at the bottom "Sent from my TECNO LB8a using Tapatalk". That was unusual (for the forums I hang out on - mostly old fuds like myself who lag behind technologically). (There never was any response from those email addressees).

It had finally dawned on me that the scum were harvesting my email address from their re-directs. I notified the SuperModerator there and he confirmed that they were all scammers and the first two had already been banned. He banned the one that posted to my latest WTB thread also.

I guess this kind of explains why I've been getting hit for the last six months by scammers. I should know better, but this email harvesting was a new one to me.

Caveat emptor indeed.

Judging by the way my computer has been reacting since Monday, ... as well as a few of those I interact with, ... I feel there is an Ill wind blowing. My goal today is to place orders for all the large items I need for a restoration project. 7 days from now, ... I don't think it will be "Business As Usual" for a long time.

I left a trail camera review on Amazon and, somehow, they got my email address and sent me 3 different offers to try out the newest model trail camera at no charge. The 3 offers were from 3 different names but they all had a link or a download to hit to take advantage of this fabulous offer.

They now reside in my SPAM file. "There is no free lunch."

More appropriate if it's their crotches, I think.

Happened to me too! I went online looking for ice cleats. I clicked on one website that looked promising. I noticed when it uploaded there was a different website showing and it took forever to upload. Then came a BIG full screen warning from Windows about suspicious activity and Windows blocked access to the internet. Now, 3 days later I seem to have back my internet. I use Mosilla. Don't know why I'm able to be online again.

Me, too. I bit on an iPhone 12 come-on, and now, I can put you in touch with a <guaranteed> male enhancement product. Brother. Stupid is, as stupid does.

There's another consequence of scams like this. It puts extra work on moderators. The mods now have to check each WTB thread to make sure there's no "Email this guy - He has what you want!" post...

And there is an inevitable trickle-down effect...The scammers will start posting in everyday threads... "I wouldn't pay that much for a Luger with an aftermarket barrel"..."Hey, email prior@gmail.com, they have reasonably priced Lugers"...
