Default New member, need help with valuing 42 byf for trade.

I am trying to collect WW2 weapons. Found my first possible Luger and need help authenticating/valuing. Can someone pm me so I can get some help. Watched one video and have a slight idea but have some pictures that can't be put on here and was wondering if someone could message me an email or phone number for assistance. Sorry if this is against board rules or supposed to be somewhere else. Thank you for your time.

From the photos the pistol looks refinished / restored. That will hurt the value considerably.

I am not an expert, but do look at it in person if possible. It appears to be suspicious...but cant tell for sure.

The photos are not clear or complete enough, but I'm seeing an amatuer-level refinish job with new grips. If I am correct the value is no more than (about) $800 IMHO. It is what I call a nice loking 4 footer.
I think I am seeing a couple of strawed parts and a couple of parts dark blued which should be "in the white".
I have no idea if the numbers are matching or if that gun is some rare variant. I'm doubtful on both accounts.
If you want it to shoot and the price is right, then all is well. But you mention being a collecter, so I'd recommend saving your money for an un-molested piece.
If you dissagree, please provide better photos. I have certainly been wrong before.
Welcome aboard.

Luger collectors are lucky. With this forum and so many pair of eyes watching, it's not easy to go wrong

Have some Patience, you wrote in the middle of the night. Where is your location?

Figure out what era of luger you want?

Figure out what type you want?

Weekends are a bad time to ask questions..people are actually off the computer living their lives..well some of them are!

What Luger books have you collected so far?

I agree with prior postings here
likely repro grips, replaced ww1? sideplate, stock lug removed, mag release looks erfurt ww1

if bright shiny bore and fxo mag ( need to add mag pics ) probably $700 - 800

overall maybe a decent shooter - but since you say you are collecting probably better to pass on this one and search/watch the for sale section here on forum

good luck with decisions
