Post 1917 luger???

What would a 1917 luger with documentation and case in good condition be worth>
My friend at work has one his sister gave him when her husband died a few years ago. He bought it in th 50's for about $500.00 us. it is all matching serial numbers. I have not seen the the gun so can not tel anything more than what I got for now. I will ask to go see it but I am kinda jumping the gun in ask I am more excited about the gun than he is.
he does not shoot so he is indifferent about it.
THanks
Kenny

As a shooter, one is worth $500 now, I bet he paid $50 for it in the 50's, as that was a weeks work for a man. $500 would have been like $5000 now?

Anyway, if in good shape, all matching, then it is worth around $800 for one in decent shape, then as condition weighs in, $1000, maybe more.

When you say documentation, that would be? And case, is it a wood case someone made or a holster? All add value, just depends on what it is.

Welcome to the Lugerforum Kenneth... You are in good company as we have quite a few members from Texas...

If you go to our homepage (link at the bottom of this page) and click on the Identification Sheets link... you will be able to download and print these sheets to help you capture the information necessary to identify as much as possible about the origin of this Luger.

For a REALLY accurate appraisal, if at all possible good clear digital photographs of the top, and both sides of the gun, and in particular any unusual stampings or proof marks on the gun, and photos of all accessories including the "case" would make the forum's effort to assist you a much easier task.

Thanks for the information I will ask to see the gun on Tuesday and use the identification sheets and get as much information as possible.
Your right about the $500.00 now that I add in inflation your right he either got ripped off or paid alot less.
