My very first Luger
Hello,
I have been interested in Luger's for quite sometime now and I finally bought one just a couple weeks ago. It is a "G" date S/42 with a serial number of 53XX with, I believe a cursive e suffix. I haven't checked all of the serial numbers to see if they are matching but the ones I can see from the outside do match, of course except the magazine. The only bad part that I can see is that it has been reblued, but I'm sure it will make a good shooter. I haven't had the oppurtunity to shoot it yet. When I bought it I got 2 mags for it one is a 122 e37 and the other is a Haenel Schmeisser eagle L. I am curious what everyone believes it is worth to see if I got a good deal on it. I have enclosed some pictures, but they are not the best, but the best I could do. Thanks |

Looks to me like it has all the makings of a fine shooter. BTW I think I've read that a Haenel Schmeisser mag is one the best made for a luger, and in pristine condition it would bring a good price. Someone with a lot more knowlage than me will set me straight if wrong (I hope).

That mag is worth a couple of hundred bucks by itself. If you are less than $650-7 in this deal, ya' done good!

Firefighter51, it looks like a great gun! From what I can see, the "reblue" looks really good--maybe you should consider this gun "restored" rather then just "reblued" (I am a big fan of restored Lugers--my second Thor restoration is soon to be on it's way back to me). The grips look super nice too. I believe the "G" dates are much less common (maybe some of the more knowledgable members can shed some light about this), so you may have a gun that is quite a bit more than just a "nice shooter". Beware though--one Luger leads to two Lugers and then you're hooked! Welcome to the Luger community!

I have already noticed that I can't stop looking at Luger's now. Mostly I'm trying to find out as much information as possible about them, but I do think that I might be addicted to them. Well it sounds like I got the gun for a good price. I gave $400 at an auction for it. Thanks for all the reply's

Good Morning:
Your G Date Luger is a Subvariation 2, which fall in the serial range of 5000d to 5000f. Estimated production is 20,000 (information from Jan Still's Third Reich Lugers). You did quite well in terms of the price you paid, especially given the magazines you received with it. The middle acceptance stamp appears to be an s/92, but it's difficult to tell from the poor photos. There are a number of variations/combinations of the acceptance stamps with the G Date Luger. Could you either describe them in greater detail, or perhaps provide a better photo? By the way, does your user name indicate you are truly a firefighter? Best Regards, Bob |

FF51, The proofing on your received appears to early to be in the "e" suffix block. Look more closely, as I believe that it is probably an "a". TH

Hi,
Are there Nill-grips on this one? It reminds me of a 'Frankonia Luger'. These are quality restorations of good condition Russian and Hungarian storage supplies. |

I am new here and have just last week purchased a Luger, not sure what the markings mean and am wondering if there is a site that list the Lugers by serial number and other info.
Thanks for any help, Mike Hanners |

Mike, welcome to the forum. It might be best to start a seperate thread (a new posting), this way you can receive e-mails when folks reply to "your" thread.
I am afraid your question is far to open, as they made lugers for over 60 years, plus they were made by several different manufacturers. Giving us your serial number and showing us good clear pictures of the markings can help us to help you, Ed

Ed,
Thanks, the serial # is 5418, will take a few days to try to make pictures then lean how to actually post them. The main thing is that all serial numbers match, even the magazines and the holster has a flap that has came off, but it to has the correct serial number. Regards, Mike |
