value of luger
i know of an individual in the possession of an 1918 luger and is interested in selling.they do not have access to a computer and i offered to find out an approximate value on thier behalf.all numbers match;is in excellent condition;has holster;also some ammo.would appreciate any help.thank you

John to get the best value guess (which is what happens when you can't see the item in your hand, and this is experience from e-bay and the like), the more information the better.
To be considered completely matching, all coponants have to have the last two of the serial number, (plus for that year / model the serial stampings can vary). So, if you go to the link to your left, g to tech info and pick Identification sheets. Here you can write down all the important information and get a good feel for the gun. Pictures can reveal if it has been re-blued, if the correct areas still are strawed, etc. What markings are on the gun? Sometimes markings will make a gun totally normal and some markings will make it a rare or reasonably rare variation. Then as Bill and I were discussing and he was totally right, condition is everything. If it is rare as all get out and been reblued, it isn't worth as much. If it is a common 1920 Commercial, and in mint shape, it is not worth as much as a 1918 in mint shape. Ed |
