WW II bring back

Hi everyone,

My question is, if a 1939 P08 has Nazi proof marks and no import stamps, does that mean (with a high degree of certainty) that it is a WWII bring back. I understand that most anybody could acquire the tools to make a fake, but outside of that, would those two conditions most likely mean a bring back?

There is a good chance this is a bring-back. Extensive photos would help, including detasiled photos of the gun's rails, where some of the kinder importers placed their stamps..

Am I mistaken or did imports not require marks prior to the GCA of 1968?

yes, from what I understand, there were tens of thousands of lugers imported after the war that were not import marked.

Ok, thanks everyone..I will post pix when I can. So would it be safe to say that a 39 P08 with Nazi proofs would have probably been used in the war, but not necessarily captured by an allied soldier. How do you tell military issued P08 from those that were issued to police?

Another question, did Luger production stop with the end of the war or did some other country besides Nazi Germany make pistols after the war that could have been imported w/o import stamps before 68?

I heard story saying people add one or two Lugers into trading to make a gun deal fair in 1950s or 60s (?). That story, if true, it must be hard for new Luger production to make any profit at that time. If the receiver is 1939 marked, it's most likely a bring-back. If comes with capture paper, that piece of paper worth some money. If not, it's by imagination, bring-back could be true, but verbal story's value is ...... at least should not be counted. More importantly, it must be original and matching, if asking premium.

The French assembled some pistols post war out of parts and then Mauser offered first refurbished, then new production pistols in the 70s,80s. All those would be obvious for what they were.
Remember that occupying troops post war were bringing back boatloads of this stuff, as were Interarms and other importers. After 1968 all these imports required markings.
