Louisville Ky. gun show report

Well, what can I say; it was the BIGGEST show I have ever been to! 3000 tables of guns knives and militaria. I used to think that Lugers were scarce, but now not so much. I have to guess as to the actual number of P.08's present, but would have to guess at least 500 or more. I counted at least six carbine rigs. It seemed that they were everywhere. Most all were overpriced, but then again in the 6 hours I was there I doubt that I could have looked at them all anyway. All of the big dealers were there including Simpson, Shattuck and Fred Fiet who had Charles Kenyon at his table (gone when I was there). All I can say is that the show was too big! I could not possibly have even tried to find what I wanted in the limited time I had. It was a five-hour drive to the show. I suggest that everyone at least try to go once, just for the experience. I was there myself it was my first time I was quite impressed.I thought it was too big to take your time to go through and look carefully at everything.Seemed like every holster I looked at was going for 150-300 seemed high to me or is that what they go for ?

No, you are right, everything for the most part was over priced. The asking prices are what they sell for on Ebay.

I was setup at the Louisville show, 12 noon Friday until 3 pm Sunday. Lots of Lugers; my estimate, 800+. This was a big show and it was hard to stay concentrated on any one Luger. The show area was loosely divided half gun collectors and half military collectors. My impression was the military collectors seemed to value their Lugers, holsters and accessories higher than the gun collectors. Although I had visions of sugar plums I was unable to score any real bargain. Maybe next time.

That is amazing! Must have been a few deals out there, but hard to find. Both good and bad, Joe Smith walking in, wanting to sell his Uncles Luger, he would see the higher prices, but on the other hand, seeing so many might think the gun isn't rare like he was told [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

Eight hundred lugers! I live in Denver. That's in Colorado, not too far from Bailey. I went to the Tanner gun show yesterday which is as big as they get away out here. One fella always has +-20 nice lugers. Other than his I saw five, one of which was a "1920 commercial silencer unit". DWM #794k it has a collar or ferule that threads onto the barrel. You unscew the collar to thread on the silencer. $3000. Any body familiar with this setup? Looks original to this naif.

Check out the feature on the homepage titled Luger Forum Centerfolds... Then check out the Luger or the month photo for July... The front sight screws off for the installation of the silencer... Is this what the one at the show looked like?

Tom, actually I did stop and speak with you. I was refering to collector grade guns. These seemed for the most part to be on the high side.

Hello Doug,

I recently noticed at the Reno gun show a '42 byf selling for $ 750.00 and at the same time the same seller has the same gun for sale on GunsAmerica.com for $ 625.00.

I guess someone needs to pay for the seller's trip and their table costs...mabe making an offer the last afternoon is the way to go...

Pete:

An offer is never out of line, at least it shows some interest. Some show dealers inflate their prices to offset trade-ins whereas on the internet they have a cash price only.

John S. Thanks that link worked fine but the gun I saw had a knurled piece in front of the sight which unscrews to reveal the threads. I should have looked closer for more detail but it was in a case and I didn't ask to handle it.

I agree with Pete wholeheartedly... making a cash offer on the last afternoon of the show often results in two happy folks... the seller and the buyer. Many dealers would rather make a sale than have to pack their guns up and take them home...only to have to try and sell it another time.

What you are describing doesn't sound like a silencer unit, but rather a .22 Caliber conversion barrel insert. Did you look at it closely enough to see if it had a "different" looking toggle assembly?
