Cool Are byf 42 Grips Numbered???

There have been questions as to whether the byf 42 grips are numbered to match the rest of the gun. Some say yes some say no. Here are mine, with the matching number. Can anyone tell if the number is real, or added by someone to make them look more legit???

Hi Johnny, I can't answer your question exactly, but. . . I have byf 42s and they have either black bakelite or numbered grips. My impression is that they should be numbered or at least marked with the E/135 Waffenamt Marks. I have seen some with very faint E/135 marks.

I would NOT accept a byf as all matching, without matching grips. At least that's my opinion!!

Your grips appear to be legit!!

Johnny,
* Ditto what Frank says IMHO.
* Big numbers seem to be the rule in late P.08's; especially byf wood grips. Always more comforting w/ an acceptance stamp; but, "they came like they came."
* Fitting and the "islands" must look right. Oil from the frame suggests these have been on for a good while.
Respectfully,
Bob

Does that mean that bakelite grips on a byf 42 should be numbered as well?

John (Balder), No, the Black Bakelite Grips are NOT numbered!!! Perhaps I should have said "Black Bakelite or Numbered Wood Grips".

Johnny--

I have a set on my 40/42 Mauser with Waffenamt Marks. They are also marked with the same size numbers as yours but with "11". They do not match the last two digits of my gun's serial number.
