Hard to say - I know its frustrating - workarounds are never fun.
I'm just guessing it happens to be an update (possibly this site) and its hard to judge.
Updates on your browser is fairly important, not updating has security risks, but also, if sites have updated, you may lose functionality. Its hard to say.
Since you were able to upload, it seems odd. Can you try uploading here? Maybe it was just a glitch?
