A few years back there was a thread about the issue of buggered grip screw threads in frames, what the original tapping was, etc. It's a Whitworth thread, and maybe someone can recall the exact diameter and pitch is on the plans John Sabato cleaned up and sold on CD.

I don't at the moment recall exactly how, but I found a source and bought one to chase out the threads on my 1906 AE shooter. At the moment, the tap's exact whereabouts in my stuff are still to be determined, but it's in the gun room for sure.

Even though it's just a few threads, and the S.A.E. taps come pretty close to spec, they're not right. I think attempts to run screws of pitches other than original into the tappings distorts the threads and makes them cranky at accepting original screws thereafter.
