The commercial and military Navy stocks were physically identical. Originally, the military ones had no stock disc and were identified as military by a large Crown/M stamp on the left side of the wood.

The discs were made standard in 1910, with many of the early ones refitted by adding the disc.

As for fit, the stocks were hand fitted to the matching pistol, like many other Luger parts. It's not unusual to find original, correct but not matching number, stocks need a bit a tweaking to fit a particular pistol.
