Default Long shot

Here is a true story. I hi lighted several Lugers on the Friday Poulin auction catalog that if the prices were in my budget, I would give it a try. Almost all went by, bringing far too much money. BUT when lot 1220 hit the block, my interest perked up. This lot consisted to a 1939 s/42 serial number 4541p WITH NO GRIPS and a 1917 Erfurt, both offered for one price. My bid was the successful bid. Of course my thoughts immediately went to where can I possibly find the right grips. The matching number was out of the question. Only the proper font and condition. The s/42 was pictured in a beautiful red velvet lined walnut case with a properly proofed tool, a box of vintage 9mm bullets, a 1939 German iron cross and an a extra mag. After the auction was over, I went to my cache of grips to see if a had anything close. To my amazement, the one pair of grips that was by far the nicest was marked in large Mauser font "41". I could hardly believe my eyes.
