Default Unit Marked M1871 carbine Aptierte

Greetings all,

Thousands of Chassepots were captured by German forces during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.

The Germans converted many of these captured Chassepots to carbines for the cavalry.

The result was M1871 Aptierte Carbine. This may not be the correct official military designation of the conversion; but, I am hoping that everyone is understanding which weapon I am referring to.

I found a really nice example which is unit marked to "L.C.X.243"

I have checked Jeff Noll's book for help in deciphering the marking but I am still not sure.

M1871 Aptierte Carbine was issued to front line cavalry until it was replaced by the all German M1871 Mauser Carbine. Then of course the Aptierte went to secondary and tertiary troops.

Any help on decipering "L.C.X.243" is greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks to all.
Richard
