When I was in my late fifties I also became concerned about mortality, so I dumped my entire collection of guns in one fell swoop, many of which were entirely irreplaceable. Soon afterwards I began to feel a terrible void, something like the empty feeling after losing a beloved dog. Eventually I felt deeply compelled to rebuild my collection. I am now 75 and have about 300 guns. I will not dump them again for at least 20 more years. You can always dispose of guns. Replacing them is an entirely different matter.
