My Dad, who is *barely* still around, used to tell tales of soldiers shooting axis deer (not a political viewpoint but a biological taxonomy) with grease guns and BARs in the Ardinne. He said that the hardest part was to convince GI's to shoot sparingly, lest much meat be lost. He was not very successful.
