Hello all,
I recently found this Simson & Co. Suhl Luger at a local gun shop.
The shop owner said it was a vet bringback and the the vet's grandson traded it in on a black powder hunting rifle.
Serial number is 8699 and that number is found on the left receiver, front of the frame and bottom of the barrel. There is no suffix.
Condition is approx 90% original rust blue finish with normal holster wear confined to the high points, muzzle and front and rear grip straps. There is no rust or pitting and the bore is clean and shiny. Rifling is excellent.
Strawing on locking bolt, magazine release and safety lever is about 90%.
There is no date on the top of the chamber.
Just about all of the small parts are numbered 99 along with waffenamt DE/6.
The rear toggle pin is un-numbered and has no waffenamt.
The coupling link is marked DE/6 but is un-numbered.
Firing pin is fluted and is marked 99 and DE/6.
The firing pin spring retainer is marked D/E6 but is not numbered.
Inside of the side plate is the number 6 (or 9) and waffenamt DE/6.
There is a letter U stamped on the left side of the frame above the trigger group that is visible when the side plate is removed.
Front of trigger guard has 2 DE/6 proofs stacked (1 small 1 large)
Forward right side of receiver has a small and a large DE/6 stacked, followed by DE/33, DE/6 and then an eagle design.
The same eagle design is found on the right side of the barrel.
Right side of the barrel has bot a small and large DE/6.
Bottom of barrel in addition to the serial number is marked 8,83.
The wooden grips are numbered to the gun (full serial number. The grip screws are proofed DE/6.
Unfortunately the only magazine that it came with is a Mauser Code 122 E/37 un-numbered magazine. Only marking on base of magazine is a second E/37 proof.
There was no holster, loading tool or spare magazine with it.
I know absolutely nothing about Simson lugers and there is nothing about them in Still's Third Reich Lugers and very little in the same authors Axis Pistols so any information / input would be appreciated.
Does anyone know approximately when this pistol was produced?
