Mikkel,

There are occasional reports of original, un-messed-with Lugers with a parts mismatch like the one here--with the production of hundreds of thousands of Lugers it is likely to happen on the odd occasion. This cannot be used as a justification for a "factory error", and it only moderately reduces the value of a Luger this fine. As you suggest, it is much more likely that someone would have tried to find a close replacement for a broken or missing part.
