Ed,Tac this is not correct, the residents that have been grandfathered under our gun laws are required to be the holder of a 12/6 handgun designation which allows the purchase and ownership of handguns under 105 mm (4 inch) this also includes 32 cal and all of the so called saturday night specials which cannot be exported outside of Canada.

If one chooses to have the luger or any other phrohibited handgun (12/6 designate) deactivated or a barrel over the 105 mm (four inch barrel length) installed then any registered handgun owner with restricted status may posses or purchase these firearms

I have lost a few good deals including a dutch contract luger that the owner wished to have deactivated to retain ownership as he did not have the required designate from the Canadian firearms centre.

You may purchase directly from an estate in which the owner has passed away provided the luger is in the hands of the trustee and the luger has not been previously been registered with the CFC. these lugers are few and far between as most are turned in prior to one finding out the wherabouts of the lugers and they are destroyed.

As to Canada specifically requiring firearms to be deactivated this again falls into a seperate act .

Phrohibited handguns have to be deactivated if the owner has not been grandfathered or run the risk of loss.

In respect to full auto's the ownership has to be covered by an order in council at the federal government level and can only be traded or exchanged between collectors/dealers.

Most of the full auto's including the military collection of machine guns can only be purchased by having the firearm deactivated, they are referred as dewatts ie--german mg's, browning 50's, thompson's, ww#1 vickers etc

As to Mr. Dunsters activities he is still free to do his own thing and that is how it should be.
