My buddy that welded the claw mount legs brought it to our regular shooting night. He made the welds very oversize as I requested. Just spent the last hour with a dremel tool and file doing a final fitting. I think I got it tighter than before!
So a happy ending to a stupid mistake that will not ever happen again!
