Double Date Luger
Hello and thanks for the information I am finding in this board. Naturally it seems that the more I read the more I wonder so the more I find, and so on. I am very appreciative of all the contributions that are made here.
I am new to Lugers. I know nothing about them, other than the long ones are Artillery models, and the basic production dates, etc. I also know that the prices are widely varied, between $650 on up to the stratosphere.
I do not have one, and I know I need one. I'm looking to spend under $800-ish for my first one. I am sure there will be more, as evidenced by my growing collection.
In my searches of my C&R vendors and online I have come across what is referred to as a "Double Date Luger" where there are two dates stamped on the top of the pistol (sorry I don't know the appropriate term of the part).
Could someone shed some light on this? Why are they double stamped? Are they truly rare or is it true that I cannot believe everything I read on an auction listing? I'm trying to make as informed a first decision as possible, but I realize that my implusiveness is acting up and I don't know how much longer I can keep it under control.
Any thoughts and general guidance you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
