Ed, Tom (Lugerdoc) is right on the money regards construction, numeral size, letter style and Waffenamt Marks. If you know Military Mauser Magazines it is possible to identify the type of Luger that it was shipped with, except for the transition areas, then it's either one or the other.
Every Luger Nut wants to find pistols with the matching magazine(s). Next, he wants to find a matching magazine for his Luger. It's tough to find Lugers with matching magazines and close to impossible to find a matching magazine for a Luger that didn't already have one.
I have coined a term that I call "Proper Magazine". That is a magazine with the proper body for the magazine that was shipped with the Luger, it has the proper Waffenamt Mark for the one shipped with the Luger, it has the same suffix letter as the Luger and I'll try to get as close to the number as possible. Even this can be tough, but in time it'll happen.
