I don't have the answer and now I'm getting confused too.
I'll try to say it differently:
This gun was for sure never used as a military gun because it has no military serial number but a civil one (starting with a P-). That being said, it is virtually identical (except for the marking) to a military M1882. Got me so far?
Civil 1882 revolvers were issued both to non-military authorities (like police, customs...) and to private individuals, for example for leisure shooting or any other purpose for which someone would want to buy a gun.
Now, my question is: can anyone tell whether this gun was used by civil authorities?
My mother tongue is not English but I hope this time my question was comprehensible.
