Morgan, There are several variables to consider in answering your question. The barrel life depends on, how rapidly the gun is loaded and fired.And the duration. What kind of ammunition is used. How oftened and well it is cleaned between firings, etc.
If you are refering to a low intensity cartridge, like the 9mm? I doubt that you could wear it out in your life time. It would take thousands of rounds,on a daily basis,over a very long period of time to produce any appreciable wear. Most Lugers with eroded barrels, are due to to corrosion, from mercuric primers. They are corroded, not worn from shooting.
I have seen a Colt 1911A1 that had nearly 70,000 rounds fired throught it over a period of 2 or 3 years. The riflings, which are shallow to begin with, were still strong.
