Big Norm, George is correct. I have seen many of these in WW1 4" and Artillery holsters sent to my shop for repair. They are original to the holster. They are an olive green and quite course woven canvas type material. If I remember correctly the knot at the end is not tied like the leather but folded over and sewn.
