Fryer John. Fryer John. I like that Ed. How would that go.....

Once upon a time, many long years ago
In the forests of Nottingham
Where only outlaws would go,
There lived a merry band of brothers in this wood,
Those dark forests of Nottingham
Do I continue? I guess I should.

We all know of Robin, and his wondrous deeds
In the vales of Nottingham
To each he gave their need,
But there is an unsung hero, one of massive girth
Who lived in the forests of Nottingham
We know not of his birth.

A massive man he was, as large as some was he
As the hallowed trees of Nottingham
He loved his food indeed.
A roasted capon to him was just a single bite.
Those mighty trees of Nottingham
Trembled at the sight.

To no other man alive was ever beer so dear
Learned the outlaws of old Nottingham
Their life was to fear
If once one stood between him and the foamy keg
Witnessed those boughs of Nottingham
He broke the trespasser's leg.

His name to all was known as simply Fryer John
In the glens of old old Nottingham
His memory lingers on.
A tale, one oft repeated, of how once died a lark
Lofty in the limbs of Nottingham
When Fryer John did fart.

The noise so o'erwelming, the odour so foul indeed
That from the boughs of Nottingham
The bird fell dead at his feet.
So Fryer John we hold you in the highest esteem
We lowly knaves of Nottingham
Remove our hats and bend our knees.
