Unless the quality has improved tremendously since I bought one a couple of years ago, I would recommend that you look elsewhere, or at least be prepared to return it if not acceptable. It is arguable that something close might be better than nothing (after all, I did keep it...), but...
I believe that mine was made in India. The overall quality was crude: it was not an exact copy (at least it did not smell like a moldy water buffalo...); and the leather was thick and rough on the unfinished side (not to imply that the outside finish was a thing of beauty and a joy to behold, but it was not too bad); and the metal fittings were exercises in primitive metal work.
It looks OK from a distance, but up close and personal it is not something to inspire pride of ownership.
BTW, CMR has a great reputation.
