Hi Ed,

As you know - most European businesses also take the US $. The only problem I had was in France, in the Alps at a local hotel - where the owner didn't take much to "outsiders". Fortunatly, I was able to remember enough French to curse her out in her own language - which instantly made me a celebrity, both in her eyes and the local township ("an American who can SWEAR in FRENCH??"). We spent 2 days in that village (total population was less then 50 folks). That next night - I learned what "Nuit Blanche" was all about...

So - forget the cash - and pack a good dictionary - it'll get you farther...
