Post Aimco Luger, kinda long.

My first post on this board. Great site. Background:
I have been enamoured with the Luger for 50+ years. The first and only one that I ever owned was a 1917 or'18 DWM mismatch that I traded for in SEA back in '65. Never could get more than 3 rds thru it with out a jam. I traded it for something or other a long time ago. I had the pleasure of the company of Mr. Bill Morrison, one of the finest Gunsmith's on the east coast. Bill had a great collection of Lugers. I remember when the Mauser remakes were intro'd in the 70's. Bill groused about them. I almost bought but didn't. I followed the intro of the stainless Mitchell/Stoeger Luger's. Again, almost bought but didn't.

My questions:
I found on this site a great photo album (several great Albums)on the Aimco Lugers. I cannot find any current info on these on the web. Are they still being made, if so who distributes them? Are they reliable shooters? How does the black stainless look? To use as a shooter are they a better choice than the Mauser remakes. Whatever I collect, I always want a representative shooter and these seem to be the way to go for a Luger. I think that I am ready to start the deep spiral of Luger collecting. The first step is a shooter and then the initial first collection piece. Thanks for any and all input.
