Oh, I see what you are saying, it was confusing how I wrote this up.

The box it actually came in is about the size of a cigar box, and is from gov't and states "Personal Effects". So, I assumed he had died and they sent this to next of kin?

So, something happened on the way home or he was stationed in the US for a little bit before getting out? Could have gone AWOL?
