Howard,

Check p. 227 for other examples of the chamber mark. My recollection of the previous discussion is that the inscription is slightly different for the 4" and 8" barrel length, the difference being the designation of the length.

The "chicken scratch is actually the gun's proof mark, it appears to be interchangeable with the crown in mark 339.
