Steve,
First make sure the sear bar plunger (disconnector) at the front end of the sear bar is moving freely and the spring behind it is good.
Then put the side plate on the frame without the cannon. Looking down the inside surface of the sideplate from the front see if the trigger lever is retracting almost all the way into the side plate after squeezing and releasing the trigger.
Third, with the complete pistol assembled, check for a good trigger return spring with sufficient force to overcome the drag in the system and return the trigger fully forward.
